Information of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple:
One of the most famous temples is Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple which is dedicated to Hindu God Lord Shiv. This temple is situated at Dasaswamedh Ghat in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India and it is near the holy Ganga river. Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the Twelve Jyotirlingas in the World which is the holiest of Shiv Temples.
Hindu God Shiv’s and Vishnu’s other names are Shri Vishwanath and Vishweshwara. The meaning of these names is Lord of the Universe.
In Ancient Times, Varanasi city call as Kashi. That’s why Vishwanath Temple calls as Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple or Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
This temple is totally based on Hindu God Shiv. In history, it has been many times destroyed and re-constructed by several kings or rulers. The last destruction of the structure by Aurangzeb was the sixth Mughal Emperor. Aurangzeb’s full name is Muhi al-Din Muhammad. This emperor constructed the Gyanvapi Mosque which is located near to the temple.
The current structure of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple was built by The Maratha Ruler in 1780 whose name was Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore. Maharaja Ranjit Singh which was the First Sikh Maharaja in India, whose donated 1 Ton Gold for the flaming of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temples Dome.
Since 1983, this temple has been managed by our local government (means the government of Uttar Pradesh). During the biggest religious occasion, on Shivratri (Hindu God Shiv Festival) was Kashi Naresh which is the King of Kashi is the chief officiating priest.

Everyone knows this temple is one of the twelve jyotirlingas, but this temple is very important to us. Because Shivalinga had manifested itself in this Vishwanath Temple. The Kashi Khanda section of Skanda Purana, tells about the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and its importance.
Skanda Purana is the largest Mahapurana in the world and he contains eighteen Hindu religious texts. In the Skanda Purana, over 81,000 verses in the text. The title of Skanda Purana is based on Hindu God Shiv and Parvati’s son, who is also called Kartikeya and Murugan. The first text of Skanda Purana exists in this century. In the modern era, Skanda Purana has survived or exists in many ways or versions. It is a living text which we use over many centuries in many ways. Such as mythology, dharma, genealogy, encyclopedically cover cosmogony, geography, temples, festivals, gemology, virtues ad evil.
