BHU is the short name of Banaras Hindu University. This university has established by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya is an Indian Independence activist and a prominent lawyer. He always considered education as the primary means to achieve national awakening. And always considered to enhance education.

In December 1905, at the 21st Conference of the India Biggest Political Party, The Indian National Congress Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya is publicly announced to establish a university in Varanasi. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya continued to create his vision to develop the university. Malaviya continued his intent to develop with other Indian nationalists and educationists.

Malaviya published his plan in 1911 and he focuses on the study of the prevailing poverty in India. Compared to the Europeans, the income of the Indian people was very low. So that’s why it was not possible to study the poor child in India. In this university, he was planning to teach everything. Such as India’s religion, Sanskrit, history, geography, and other subjects.

Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya always had a dream that all the poor children in India got a good education. He also believed that the poor will get rid of poverty only when they get a good education in their own country.

Malaviya was very concerned about the university. And always thinks about what subjects should study at this university. He also paid attention to these things. Which languages should teach, and how this university should run. In 1903, Annie Besant’s donate Rs 2,50,000 for the construction of the university hostel and campus. He decided that all the students at this university would educate. It does not matter who they are or where they come from. These universities are open to the whole world and children from all over the world can come to visit here. In 1907, Annie Besant’s applied to get a royal charter to establish the university. But the British government did not any respond to the royal charter sought by Annie Besant.

Annie Besant & Malaviya met after the publication of the plan to build the university. In 1911, Besant and Malaviya agreed to build the university in Varanasi.

He gave up his legal practice to develop the university. And devoted his entire attention to building the university. The Hindu University Society has registered on 22 November 1911. The Hindu University Society aims to raise funds for developing the university. And the work of this society was also that the university is working fine as per Malaviya’s plans or not.

For the next 4 years, he worked to raise funds and support to develop the university. He received support from the Maharaja Sir Rameshwar Singh Bahadur of Raj Darbhanga and the Kashi Naresh Prabhu Narayan Singh. Thakur Jadunath Singh of Arkha with other noble houses of the United Provinces has contributed to the build the Banaras Hindu University.

Finally Launching History:

bhuIn October 1915, Malaviya was ready to launch the Banaras Hindu University. With the support of Indian National Congress members, the BHU Bill was passed by the Imperial Legislative Council. Banaras Hindu University was finally established in 1916. After the established the university the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya was the first Vice Councilor of this university. The Banaras Hindu University was the first university in India which was the result of private individual’s efforts. On 4 February 1916 at Vasant Panchami, the foundations of the university have laid by Lord Hardinge.
